The Governing Body

The governing body of our school has general responsibility for the conduct of the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievement and the need to eliminate unlawful discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity in the area of race, disability and gender.

The Governing Body has a strategic role encompassing the following core functions:
  • Ensuring that the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the school is clearly defined;
  • Ensuring that the Headteacher performs their responsibilities for the educational performance of the school; and
  • Ensuring the sound, proper and effective use of the school's financial resources.

The Governing Body meetings

When the full governing body meets (6 times per year) there are opportunities to focus at length on key areas such as Computing or our diversity and distinctiveness as a church school, as well as tracking progress towards targets. The governing body has convened a Business Committee to ensure that the school operates within the Financial Regulations of Somerset Council. The Committee meets 5 times per year in line with the school's financail cycle.

The governing body of twelve members is constituted as follows:
  • 2 parent governors
  • 1 LA governor
  • 1 staff governor
  • 7 foundation governors (4 vacancies)
  • the Head Teacher

In common with all governing bodies we are also able to welcome associate governors, who do not have voting rights but are able to bring specific expertise for the good of the school.

The current Chair of the Governing Body is Mrs Claire Levene Plumb.

The Clerk to the Governing Body is Mrs Sam Nicol.

All communication with the Governing Body should be sent to the school, marked for the attention of the Clerk in the first instance.  Contact details are here.
